In the early morning of our third day we went to school with our exchange partners. There the Polish headmaster welcomed us cordially. After a speech of welcome we were shown the schoolhouse. The School provides a 1000m² gym, a sports field, two IT-rooms, a library, a lecture-hall, a language-laboratory, modern classrooms and a school cantine. That is a lot of space for the 700 pupils, who attend the school. After a presentation on Bartosz Glowacki High School and the Polish school system, we visited Opatów, one oft he oldest towns in Poland. Opatów has about 7000 inhabitants and lies in the province of Swietokrzyskie Voivodeship. We were fascinated by ist history and amazing places. A few Polish students took us through the town, where we stopped at different monuments. Our first stopover was at Warsaw Gate. It ist he only one oft he four historical gates which still exist. The initial purpose oft he four gates was to defend the town against hostile armies. In the following we visited town hall and town square. The St. Martin`s Collegiate is a masterpiece oft he romansque art and was built in the 12th century. It is one oft he most important sights in Opatów. Our guided tour ended with a walk on the “underground tourist route“ The “Opatówskie Cellars“ were built in the 15th century and are an admirable example of underground architecture. In the late afternoon we had some free time with lur exchange partners. (Lea Veitengruber, Q11)
