Social Distortion - Angel's Wings
You say you’re down on your luck
Hey baby It’s a long, long way up
Hold back now, hold back your fears
You say you’re really down and out
And you feel like there’s no way out now
Let go now let go of your tears some more
How many times have you asked yourself?
Is this the hand of fate now that I’ve been dealt?
You’re so disillusioned this can’t be real
And you can’t stand now the way you feel
I don’t care about what they say
I won’t live or die that way
Tired of figuring out things on my own
Angel’s wings won’t you carry me home?
Chorus:
And when you’re down on your luck
Hey baby It’s a long, long way up
Hold back now, hold back your fears
And when you’re really down and out
And you feel like there’s no way out now
Let go now, let go of your tears some more
Repeat Chorus
I triumphed in the face of adversity
And I became the man I never thought I’d be
And now my biggest challenge, a thing called love
I guess I’m not as tough as I thought I was
I don’t care about what they say
I wanna marry you some day
Gonna wake up, it’s a brand new day
Angel’s wings gonna carry you away
Angel’s wings gonna carry me away
Angel’s wings gonna carry us away
Gonna carry us away...

Analysis
The central point of the advert is a young, pale and naked woman, who is packaged like a piece of meat. The way she holds her arms and the way she looks remind you of her being trapped behind that package, she wants to escape from. The colours used in the advert are very uncomforting, as the background is held in black, the package in white and the woman has a pretty unhealthy and pale colour of skin. The slogan "If you pay a prostitute, you're financing human trading" is written - in comparison to the image - relatively small, which means that you will only really notice it if the advert has won your attention. This attention is achieved by two ways. The men will propably look at the advert, because it shows a naked woman, which is actually quite embarrassing. But as soon as the slogan is read, even men will or at least should think about it. Women's attraction is - of course - also won by the image of the woman, but mainly because she is packaged. They will surely think: "Oh, I wouldn't want that!"
Characterization - Create your own character
Nr.2 looks like an outsider. He appears rather fat, seems to be not the tallest guy, has got a babyface and an oldfashioned 80s haircut which fits his clothes quite well. He looks right through you, doesn't laugh at all and looks at the floor 90% of the day. The only mood he spreads is depression and the feeling of not belonging to the rest. One could think that he is a very calm person, talking slow and shy, never looking in one's eyes. Masses of people frighten him and self confident good looking men make fun of him, as the only friends he has are his world of warcraft compadres in the internet. He would like to be nr.6 but thinks that changing himself is useless, 'cause it wouldn't change anything at all. The work he does is creating Homepages for Online-Games. The money he gains for that is used for new games right away, as he lives at home where he doesn't have to pay. Although he is a very friendly and nice person, people don't accept him due to his lifestyle of hiding himself in the internet.

Why does Morris love the paternoster elevator? (p.212)
Morris loves the paternoster elevator because he didn't know this type of elevator before, which reminds him of his youth, being on fairs and having similiar pleasures. The elevator also personifies all kinds of systems that return eternally. As well, you do not have to wait for it. He describes it as an "poetic machine", as it at first disappears in darkness and returns in light, which seems quite mystical to him.
Essay
Even in times where children are taught about the fight for equality by Martin Luther King and the like and in times where any kind of discrimination of other ethnic groups is forbidden by law in – at least first world - countries, crime with racist background is still not unusual. So if it is not anchored in law or school, where does racism come from? „Racism isn't born, folks, it's taught“ is one famous saying concerning this serious topic. Imagine a very unrealistic scenario in which your white best friend is attacked by an Afro-American who steals his wallet. Let this happen another time with a white thief and another four times with a coloured thief again. We now have a statistic of five thefts by blacks and one theft by whites, which nevertheless does not give you a clue about reality at all. Anyway, your best friend will eventually combine his experience with the colour black. In this case, racism is born. This truely is an example which expects the victim to be not the smartest guy, but as there are many people who are not the smartest guys it maybe is not that wrong at all. But still, I agree with the quote and say, that racism is taught. Teaching racism begins, when coloured people don't earn the same amount of money though doing the same job, teaching racism begins with fundamentalist religious fanatics forbidding their children to marry men or women with other ethnic background, teaching racism begins with retarted rednecks complaining about immigrants without a job getting social help just to tell you the next moment, that some turkish man stole his job, not thinking of the point that he perhaps only wasn't such an idiot like him. All in all, racism can be taught then, when others failed to teach the opposite.
