CARTOON analysis
In the cartoon the statue says: "Bring me your..." This refers to a poem in which the statue's seen as a symbol of freedom for immigrants.
QUESTIONS on the TEXT
Explain what former US president Clinton expected form immigrants and US citizens in regard to the large influx of immigrants at the time.
In order to make the United States a stronger nation former US president Bill Clinton expected from immigrants (include part of question into the answer) "learn, to work, to contribute to the America" (l.9) (When you quote: inverted commas "...." name the line where the quotation can be found) So that they are able to achieve this, US Citizens must, according to Clinton, give immigrants the opportunity to succeed. He wants Americans to create an atmosphere of tolerance, so that the newcomers (avoid repititions if possible) can feel at home. As a consequence their contributions to the American economy and culture will strenghten the country to be "one America in the 21st century." (l.53)
