Solution to "Similarities and differences as to the importance and practice of religion in the USA and Germany"

When looking at the importance and the practice of religion in the USA and Germany one can discern a number of similarities in the two states.
The most obvious is that the mainstream religions, such as Catholics and Protestants are the same, and that Sunday is the day of the main church service. Furthermore, the different churches provide humanitarian aid when there is a national emergency or they give help to the poor. In the same way the churches often help their own communities on a local scale e.g. through running hospitals, kindergartens and soup kitchens.
But when taking a closer look one can also find aspects in which the two countries differ. In the US there is a greater variety of religious groups, consequently a greater range of choice is offered to the believers to pick the denomination that suits them best. With changing needs the Americans are also likely to change faith in their lifetime more often than Germans. Another aspect is that church attendance is much higher in the US than in Germany due to the fact that Americans practice their religion more actively, but also because religious education is done in Sunday schools as the state is forbidden by law to provide it in the usual state school curriculum. One last result of the great variety of denominations in the US is that concerning social and moral matters the different churches often disagree with each other, leading to heated debates, but in politics their influences usually neutralize each other.

TEXT
Looking at the American society today one will notice that it is one of the most diverse of the world. This diversity goes back to centuries of immigration into the US, but why has it ever since been a country many people from all over the world have wanted to go to?
America has ever been a refuge for people who sought personal freedom, in the beginning these were the so-called founding fathers wanting to escape religious persecution in England. Above all the Puritans found in America a place to practice their religion freely, and this idea can thus still be found deeply rooted in the American society as well as in the Constitution.
But even today the influx has not ceased, though the reasons for coming are different. The American Dream, which had drawn many Europeans to the New World within the last centuries, is still vivid among Asians and especially Latinos making their way across the border to California in search for a better future for themselves and their families.
So all in all it can be said that America has always offered hope and perspectives for people around the globe, and it is safe to say that the US will stay a haven for immigrants in the years to come.
