Problems and reasons

• rise in unemployment => immigrants turn to crime
• hatred or envy of other sections of the community
• Immigrants refuse to integrate => difficult to get a job
• Muslims felt insulted by a critical book about the prophet Mohammed => became aggressive/ protest marches
• Muslim parents demand separate schools
• Most immigrants do not bother to learn English + make little or no effort to adopt the British customs
• Majority lives in poorer areas of Britain

=>separate districts with their own shops, schools…

• Prejudices against immigrants
• Wrongful arrests and maltreatment by the police against Asians and Afro-Caribbeans
• Not many among the older generations, nor many among the working class of the British want integration of immigrants
