08.05.09: Questions on working with a laptop at school:
1.) Would you like to have a laptop for yourself in class and at home? Say why (not)!
Yes:
- but only if I won't have to carry all my books with me any more
- at last my own computer!!
- unlimited entry to the internet
- I can get information more easily from the internet also at school!
- you can easily correct writing mistakes and thus achieve a cleaner look of your workbook
No:
- too slow (concerning this laptop we're testing)
- keyboard is much too small and it takes a lot of time to get used to it
- battery is weak
- touchpad is circuitous
2.) What do you think would be the best way to use it at/for school? Think of different subjects!
- no more heavy schoolbooks
- your own computer is perfect for the subject informatics!
- you can easily draw functions in mathematics
- the teachers won't have to print all the worksheets any more because they can write it in a document thus a lot of costs for printing can be saved
3.) Do you think a laptop can help you to learn better / more effectively / faster ...? How would this work?
No:
- because I will do anything at the computer but learn <== very honest! ;-)
Yes:
- some pupils may write faster on the keyboard than by hand
- there may be some programs for learning vocabulary for example
4.) What disadvantages/problems do you see in working with your personal laptop at and for school?
- the pupils don't learn a correct handwriting
- high costs for electricity because the batteries aren't strong enough to operate the laptop whole the time at school
- the pupils may get problems with their eyes because of looking at a display whole the time
12.05.09: Criticism on the the OLPC-project
- it's used only to sell as much laptops as possible and to make a great amount of money
- the developers are more engaged in the problem to sell as much laptops as possible to african children than to develop and improve those
- open source is discussed ==> distraction
