1.

Eva wants to use a laptop in class, but not this kind of laptop, due to its small size, which would be very uncomfortable for typing.

Sophia: I would like to have a laptop in class but I think I wouldn't use it at home because it is really too small for typing and search things in the internet. Otherwise it can be practical when you are travelling.

2.

Eva would use a laptop in most of the subjects. It is very useful, because typing is faster than handwriting, consequently the pupils have more time to listen to their teacher. Moreover the internet has a lot of information, which can be used.

Sophia: I wouldn't use the laptop often because in maths you cannot really write the numbers you use and I think that handwriting is more useful. Then you think more about the things you write and can remember them better. So my opinion is that to use the laptop for writing texts is not good for children.

3+4

Eva thinks, that in certain situations learning with a laptop would be better, because you could save and change your notes more easily. Moreover you could use the internet all the time. But the internet is also a problem. Everybody could write something and upload it and you can't be sure wheather the things you read are right.

Sophia: No I don't think, that I can learn better with a laptop because I know how fast I would be distracted. Another point is, that I don't like to use the laptop for learnig things. I need to write it down on a sheet of paper, and take it with me everywhere I want.

Questions on the films

1 + 2 Why one laptop per child? / What are the basic ideas?

  • creates education opportunities
  • low costs, low power, connected laptop
  • adapted for every weather
  • helps to learn, to explore, to create a better future
  • communication with others
  • non-profit company
  • children can broaden one's horizon

Education is the foundation of all solutions!!!

3. What do you think about the basic ideas/theses?

We think, that the basic ideas are really good. They want to help the children to get a better future and be equal with all other children in the whole world. But one laptop per child cannot be the answer for all. It cannot stop the famine or diseases. So we think that when you want to help children in conflict areas you have to improve more than "only" education (in terms of laptops). In better areas I think such a laptop per child can be a good idea to motivate children to learn more and more easily.
