The American Dream...
What are the essential elements that characterize the American Dream? How did it develop?
In the text are several elements that characterize the American dream and it shows how this dream has developed. The American Dreams means to fulfil your wishes and aspirations and it symbolizes an attitude of faith and hope. Furthermore, freedom and happiness are important values of this dream, because the early settlers had been pursuit because of their religion. Therefore they wanted to create a country of freedom and tolerance in America. Another important element is the democratic system, because the Americans think, that "all men are created equal" and everyone has certain personal rights, for example "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" (Declaration of Independence). Moreover, America offered much opportunities to everyone and a huge amount of natural recources. The Americans soon and easily reached their material aims, but by reaching these aims they forgot or even destroyed the spiritual and moral aspects of life. Nowadays America is a progressive and wealthy country, but it still has to deal with some problems like discrimination, corruption, poverty and oppression.
