The cartoon, which is from the Rocky MTN News is by the cartoonist Ed Stein. It is only one picture on which you could see two men. The first one is Barack Obama and the other one is John McCain. These are the two candidates for the presidential election of the USA. Barack Obama looks like a baby with baby clothes and a dummy in his mouth. He is standing in his baby bed. B.O. is looking very happy. On the other side is John McCain. He is looking like an old man, who is sitting in his rocking chair with a cover over his legs. J.M. looks very old, weak and sick. Because of that there is standing  a table with medicine beside him. Above B.O. are standing the words “not enough experience” and above J.M. “too much experience”. That shows us that the cartoonist isn’t on the side of anyone of these candidates.

The cartoonist wants to show that B.O. would be the youngest president and that he wouldn’t have enough experience in politics. About McCain he wants to show us that he would be the oldest president and that his ideas and points of view are antiquated.

The cartoon made by Edstein is about the campaign for the presidential election. The cartoon shows Barack Obama standing in a baby `s bed on the left and John McCain in a rocking chair on the right side. Above Obama it is written “not enough experience” and above McCain “too much experience”. The cartoonist wants to show that there is no right choice in the presidential election because Obama is too young and unexperienced and McCain is too old for the job.

Cartoon 1

The cartoon shows the two candidates Obama and McCain who both run for president.

Obama, on the left side, is portrayed as a baby in a playpen. In his mouth he has a dummy and he is wearing a typical dress for a baby. Obama`s eyes are closed and he looks very helpless. The comment above him says: “Not enough experience”. Obama is described as a baby, because he is very young in contrast to other politicians. This is a point why some people think he isn`t experienced enough to be the president. In the picture his eyes are closed which describes that he hasn`t seen much of the world. On the right side there is McCain who is sitting in a chair with a cover on his legs. He has white hair and is wearing a old-fashioned pullover. Next to him there is a table with some medicine. McCain looks very old and he doesn`t seem to have power any more. There is a comment, too, which says:” Too much experience”. McCain is already 72 and maybe he wouldn`t change anything because old people are often very conservative. He is portrayed as a man without energy who looks like he would die soon.

The cartoonist wants to point out the big contrast between the candidates. He wants to show, that either, being too young, and being to old, can be a disadvantage for this important job. People who are for Obama might not completely agree with the message of this cartoon because they think a young president could change a lot. Additionally people who cote for McCain might think that everything which happened in politics in the past was good and so they don’t want a change and they think it`s ok that he`s old.

In my opinion Obama isn`t too young for the job because being young doesn`t have to mean that someone doesn`t have enough experience. But I think that McCain is too old and too conservative.

The Cartoon is painted by Edstein in 2008 and appeared in the Rocky Mountains News.

The Cartoon shows on the left side a black baby who stands in a little bed for children with a fence around. In his mouth he has a dummy. On the right side of the picture you can see a very old man, sits on a rocking chair. He wears a blue pullover and over his legs lays a blanket. Besides him stands a little table and on the table is a cup, spoon and a medicine located. Over both is a sentence. By the black baby is written “Not enough experience” and by the old white man “Too much Experience”.

This Cartoon relates to the presidential election. So the little black baby stands for Barack Obama and the old man for John McCain. And I think the Conclusion of the Cartoon is that neither Obama nor McCain is the right president for the U.S.A. because Obama has not enough experience as the text implies and McCain is too old and conservative
