Writing a Diary Entry:

  • personal perspective
  • can be informal
  • 1st person
  • authentic language (e.g. a teenager may sound like a teenager)
  • you can address your diary directly (Dear diary ... Good night ...) è "dialogue with diary"
  • about your/character's hopes, feelings, plans, problems
  • could be intendend be be kept secret OR clearly written to be published/shared later (e.g. blog, travel diaries)
  • entries often start with an introduction/general statement about the day ...
  • the main part may contain
  • reflection of events in the past
  • pensive entries assessing present situation (feelings, chances)
  • outlook to /expectation for the future (hopes/fears)
  • a mix of all three?
  • entries often end in a final remark about the day/a reason why you stop now, or some thoughts about the future
