Romeo is the son of the Lord of Montague and one of the title characters and about 16 years old. Romeo's first love is not Juliet but a woman called Rosaline. But his love to Rosaline is unrequited, so he is sad because he fell deeply in love with Rosaline and thought she´s the only woman he could ever love. Then he met Juliet and quickly forgot his old love Rosaline. From this point on he´s very dynamic. So it seems Romeo is a guy, who fells easily in and out of love. Furthermore he´s also courageous, because Romeo and his friends go to the party of the Capulets, his family's enemy, which means. Moreover Romeo likes poetry, which you can see, when he´s talking with his friends, who are very important to him.

=Angela's Ashes=
 +
 +
Angela's Ashes, published in 1996, is an autobiographical novel by Frank McCourt.
 +
The first-person narrator Frank McCourt tells his experience of his childhood in New York and Ireland.
 +
 +
In 1930 Frank was born in Brooklyn, New York, as the eldest son of irish immigrants. Due to the Great Depression the family moves to Limerick in Ireland. But things don´t get better there. The relatives of Frank's mother doesn't accept his father because of his nordish accent. Furthermore he can't prove that he fought on the side of the republicans in the irish cival war. So he doesn´t get the help, which a war veteran deserves. The family lives in poorness because his father spends all his money in pubs. That's why the only opportunity to get some money for food is to steal it.
 +
Because of the poorness Frank decides to leave school and go to work, for example at the post office. Moreover he works secretly for a private moneylender. When the moneylender dies, he steals the available money to fulfil his dream, going back to New York.
 +
 +
I think the book could be pretty interesting and futhermore it is pretty easy to understand because Frank McCourt tells the plot from the viewpoint of a child.
 +
 +
The novel even won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography in 1997.

Thoughts about the election in germany

  1. The party "SPD" is the biggest loser in this election because 23,4% is its lowest election result in history. I think a reason for this is that a lot of people who elected "SPD", decided to vote "Die Linke", which reached more than 10% the first time.
  2. The big winner of the rather small parties is "Die Piratenpartei". Especially young voters, decided to elect them. I think this is just because of their name! And a lot of people who don't care who to reign germany just read "Die Piratenpartei" and thought "Ahh. pretty cool name".
  3. Another big winner is the party "FDP", which reigns germany now with "CSU/CDU"
  4. The voter turnout this year was very low. I think especially young voters don't care about electing.

Adverts

The advert "Buckle Up"
question answer
what product? To buckle up
aim and target group? Everyone who drives with a car
elements (description, relation between them? Four framed pictures of persons on a bright wall; the first persons are dead , which you see at the black ribbon at that position of the picture; the last person uses that black ribbon as a seatbelt
how is "customers'" attention attracted? contrast between the bright wall and the black ribbon
message (of text and image)? If you don´t use a seatbelt you will possibly die, when you have a car accident.
how does the advert work, how are people influenced/conviced?
  • advert appeals to everyone who drives with a car
  • advert uses customers' fears of being dead or injured after a car accident
  • rhetorical and stylistic devices in language and imagery: the black ribbons, which represent death, are used to save somebodys life

Essay

Advertising works pretty easy, which i will show you on the advert of "Deutsche Verkehrswacht" to buckle up. The advert shows four framed photos of people different ages and different genders. The first three persons are dead, which is symbolized by the black ribbon on the upper corner of the pictures. The person of the last photo uses this black ribbon as a seatbelt. The first thing you notice, when you look at the advert is the big contrast between the bright wall and the black ribbons. Because of the bright clothes the persons are wearing, the contrast get even stronger. On this way the costumers' attention is easily attracted. So the customer thinks about the advert and understands the message of the image, that you will probably die, if you don't use a seatbelt. The advert also uses costumers' fears of being dead or injured after a car accident.
